Do you need to ground this when installed outside? null

The electricity has to go somewhere. Down the pole and into the ground is better than through the cable wire and into your house. A ground doesn't mean that electricity can't follow the cable into your home, but electricity takes the path of least resistance... which is why you should have a good ground wire.
