I had the same issues several times. The short answer is: this unit is a piece of crap. Do like I did and throw it in the garbage and buy a model a couple steps up. This was the first time I had purchased the entry-level unit from APC and I should have known better. My last higher-end units lasted for years with zero issues. This was nothing but trouble. APC should be ashamed of themselves for producing such an inferior product.

I would try reducing the equipment connected to the UPS to see if the issue will clear up. Also in regards to the red light, do you have any other surge protectors or UPSs that you could connect to the outlets that shows the site wiring fault? If you do I would try connecting them to these outlets to see if the light shows up on there as well.
