The Air has a faster processor (~50% faster) and has a laminated screen so if you use the Apple Pencil to write/draw on it, there's less perceived separation between the pen and the screen surface, so it feels more natural. I believe the screen is also supposed to be generally slightly higher quality as far as color reproduction and whatnot, too.
