It a wide open area no speaker will sound great, at home its designed to read your room and then adjust.I would buy one and try it. You can always return it. (you won't trust me)

The HomePod did not sound that great to me in the store, either, but the space was so large, the ceiling so high, and the store itself so generally noisy that I thought, yeah, okay, I imagine it will sound better at home. And it does! Worlds better. I have my HomePod set up in my den, a smallish book filled room, and the speaker sounds fantastic: warm, crisp, detailed. It is frankly astonishing to me that a speak so small can produce sound quality like this.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I preordered this and picked it up as soon as I got into the store. I was told there was a demo set up available for me to listen and as me and the store manager went over there to listen within minutes of having his thing full blast we had about 12 people surrounding it. A mixture of customers and associates. The associates who were standing around it didn’t even know it was the HomePod because it sounded that good even in a open space. Everyone was impressed and I walked out of that store a happy man and was even happier with what it sounded like at home. You could always buy one and return it if you’re not satisfied.
