• The current operating system (OS X) is called El Capitan, version 10.11.5. However, this laptop is a mid-2012 and comes with OS X Mavericks (10.9). You'll have to update the software to El Capitan from the App Store on your own.

• Mine came with OS 10.10.4. After the system update yesterday, I have 10.10.5. Under the Apple Menu, choose "About This Mac" and it will tell you what you have.. These machines have been out for a while, and your system might be different.

• comes pre-load with Yosemite 10.10.4. Keep it that way until Apple resolves the 10.10.5 issue, or you will be dealing with a paper weight.

• OX 10.7 or higher. When you set it up, it automatically downloads the latest operating system and continues to update.
