I purchased the clear polycarbonate case by Apple at the Best Buy store. Be sure the get the one for the MAC pro 13" with the Retina display so it will fit properly.
One of the Thule protective cases. They'll protect it from drops and even spills. The only downside is that it's not a hardshell, it's similar to a sleeve that's on steroids.
I recommend the Thule Vectros case. It offers rugged protection against drops, scratches, and dirt. The extreme protection it offers is still stylish looking and does not get in the way of any of the functionality of the laptop.
I have a 15in MacBook Pro Retina and I just put on a protective skin that protects the whole exterior including back and sides. Its kind of like a screen saver but for the external part of your MacBook. Bestskinsever.com I can assure I don't work for them. but I spent $2500 on a MacBook. I am confident its protected. Just to be extra sure, Amazon offers a neopreen soft case which is there brand for $10. Fits like a glove and they make for a 13 in too. The skins are about $30. Good luck
I would recommend the spec case that Spec came up with new version for retina. It goes over top and back of computer. About $60. Worth it. It protects against wear and scratches.
Not sure any case will protect it from falls without being overly large and heavy. iLuv used to make nice ones though - maybe check Amazon.
I use the "incase" case. It protects well. Is small and very lightweight and supersoft inside. About $25-30 bucks
I think the Speck cases are the best but how many times are you dropping it? After a few drops I dont think any case is going to protect it that well.
I got a Kuzy - Retina 13-Inch Light PURPLE Rubberized Hard Case for MacBook Pro 13.3" with Retina Display A1502 / A1425, and it snapped on quite nicely. It's important to realize that these cases protect the laptop from dings and scratches but don't necessarily protect from internal damage if you drop your laptop (something I and my cats do far too often!). I also got the Kuzy - Purple Ombre Colors Keyboard Cover Silicone Skin for MacBook Pro. Keyboard covers like this protect the keyboard (and the internal guts of the laptop underneath!) from liquid damage. (My Macs have suffered such disasters as the Great Tea Flood and even a Great Pea Soup Flood. The former was fatal to my desktop computer. My old macbook actually survived the latter because I shut it down immediately and stuck it into a large bag of rice to help it dry out.... something that wouldn't have been necessary with a keyboard cover which would have been much easier to clean!
Haven't found any that would protect against falls.
