If you bought the full sized Magic keyboard then you have two delete keys. One for backspace and the other deletes to the right.
On the smaller Magic keyboard, the delete key erases to the right but to backspace you use the Fn key on the lower left of the keyboard to make it delete normally.

The delete key does both things on the main keyboard, one the numeric keyboard is a specific "del" key that it main function is to delete.
