No. The iPads, with a 12.9 inch or a 10.5-inch screen, were both announced on June 5, 2017. Both models are compatible with the first generation of Apple Pencil. The Apple Pencil (Second Gen) needs the magnetic connector on the side of the new iPad Pro (third generation and up).
