That depends on what kind of Apple Watch you have. If it’s the gps version all you need is your iPhone and you’re all set to go. If it’s the LTE version you will need to activate it with your carrier.

If you want to be able to use the watch as a phone when your iPhone is not around, you must contact your phone carrier to add the line. The cost per month varies across different providers.
