There are 2 versions of the watch, one with cellular capabilities that requires an active cell service/plan to use the watch as a phone to make and receive calls with or without your phone nearby. The one without cellular service is less expensive and doesn't work as a phone unless your phone is nearby. I'm not sure, but it may work as a phone if connected to WiFi as well. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, It does need to be linked to an existing phone line (can be parents) if you want to receive or make calls. Need to be linked to use as a phone. AT&T only charge me $10/mo to add her watch and it’s included in my existing protection plan.
