I am sure there is no restocking fee, but if you don’t have packaging then you might lose some value but you should still return it and get the newer one it’s way better and it might be on back order but still return it and either get your money back or a gift card. I got this for my wife also, and just a heads up never buy Apple products before September, they usually have upgraded version coming out at this time every year.
