“Since this is a "add on camera" does it mean you cant use it just by itself?”

As long as you have it connected to the base unit viz wifi.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.You must have the base unit that needs to be connected to your wifi. If you have other cameras already connected you can turn them off individually. I hope I am understanding your question and have answered it to your satisfaction.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.You need a base station to pair up and transmit/record. Best to buy the 3 or 4 camera set and buy add on cameras as needed.
