If you want maximum performance the fans do get quite loud. However there is a silent mode that is absolutely silent if you wanted to use it to watch a movie or some other low-intensity task. I have only online for short time but have not noticed it getting hot at all even when running a demanding game. Beware that a laptop like this with a powerful processor and full fat GPU will have very limited battery life
