“Would this be a good laptop for someone who plans to major in mechanical engineering next year? The campus has computer labs to handle heavy work, but I want a solid laptop that can handle small projects and school when I am not on campus.”

Absoluteley! This is an outstanding laptop for any tech major. As good as the best Macbook Pro (including the Pro level) but at a much cheaper X86-64 price, and better than any Intel-based laptop (including the Lunar Lake new ones just coming out now and the older Meteor Lake ones that came out a year ago).
