I have this Laptop, just now tested it. No you cannot charge it via Thunderbolt nor type-C. This is a gaming laptop that polls 180 watts of power through the power brick. He probably was thinking more about the lower tier model laptops that have no dedicated GPU and a lower TDP CPU. You will have to charge this laptop through the power brick included.
