“There is a very high pitched noise that also screeches sometimes when I plug in my earbuds in the audio/mic jack. It's unbearable/super annoying for me and makes me consider returning it. Has anyone found a solution other than external usb or bluetooth?”

If you are plugging in external speak or earbuds .. turn the volume down on the laptop first … if external powered speaker do the same … that will solve the problem to some extent.
