Yes, you need a receiver.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes and no. The turntable has a switch allowing two levels of output. When you set the switch to "phono" the output is that of a preamplifier which is then sent to a receiver's phono input. The other setting is "Line." This can be fed to the line input on a sound card with a recording feature or some other recording mechanism with line input. If the receiving apparatus is not a sound card you probably won't be able to hear what you're recording. That's why my answer was "yes and no."

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It depends. If the speakers you will be using with the turntable are powered type speakers, no you do not need a receiver. The turntable can be connected directly to them. Make certain that you turn on the turntables internal phono preamplifier. That is, set the preamp selector switch that is located on the rear of the turntable in the LINE position. If the speakers are passive type speakers, then yes you will need a stereo amplifier or receiver between the turntable and the speakers which will provide the power needed for the speakers to operate.
