For the best results, the arrows should be pointing in the same direction as the signal flow, i.e. away from an output jack and towards an input jack.

What if the TV is sending the sound to the receiver and the receiver is sending the sound out to the speakers in a 5.1 system. Should the arrow point from the TV to to receiver since the TV in generating the sound?

To help clarify the signal flow arrows: Sound/Video will have a direction and you need to align the arrows with this data flow. See below:

Example: TV and Blu-ray player only (sound comes out of the TV speakers [non-soundbar application]): arrows should point directionally to the TV since the A/V originated at the Blu-ray Player and is being processed by the TV.

Example: Audio Video Receiver (AVR), Blu-ray Player, TV: 2 Cable Application: First cable arrows should point directionally from the Blu-ray Player to the AVR since the player is the source and AVR is processing/outputting to home theater speakers. Second cable arrows should point from the AVR to the TV since the AVR is sending video data it's receiving from a source (Blu-ray, XBOX, etc.) to the TV.

So what you want is the arrow pointing from the ps4 to the TV. Any component to the end receiver. This isn't explained anywhere but my best buy dude helped me.

Always go FROM the output of the device (cable box, DVD player, Apple TV, etc) TO either the switching unit or the set.
