No....all you need to do is plug it in and then connect via bluetooth to your home internet and connect it to your phone. Works perfectly with my iPhone, and I'm sure with any smart phone.

No other hardware required. It connects to your wifi and you can control it with the android/ios app on your smarthphone. IFTTT, amazon echo support, samsung hub support, etc., are all optional things you can do to your wemo.

No. plug it in and use your mobile phone to search for the wifi of the outlet. Then run the app and it works flawless.
