The replacement of the battery depends on how much you use it. You don’t need Alexa to use it just download the app.

While the Blink System does integrate with the Amazon Alexa enabled devices you do not need one of these devices to operate the Blink cameras, The Blink App is currently compatible with any iOS mobile devices running version 12.5 or higher, Android mobile devices running version 5.0 or higher and Fire OS mobile devices, running software version 5.1 or higher

The Blink app gives you full functionality minus voice control. As for batteries, you replace them with Energizer Lithium AA batteries which are sold everywhere. Hope this helps!
