The app will allow you to vary the volume of both the surround speakers and the soundbar.

Rick, it's my understanding that you cannot increase the volume on the rear speakers. they are tuned with the soundbar. However, when the question came up as geek squad was installing they noted it was important that the headset that is required to set the speaker system up is important. sorry I couldn't be more help
