“This question has been answered with ambiguity Some said yes and some said no. So here it goes again. Can I print if one of the cartridges is empty? Also, can it be set up to only print in black? Thanks”

NO. If ANY of the cartridges are low,empty printer WILL NOT PRINT. Even if you go to settings and choose black/white only.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Supposedly yes, but after owning one for a year, I could never get that command to work on Brothers menu. Has for printing black ink only, you can set the printer to print monochrome, but the other cartridges will dry out and you will need to replace/ refill them (in about a year).
