I'd go for the 50mm just because of the lower f-stop number. In low light and night photography, there lower the f-stop, the wider the aperture. Wider aperture means more light, which will make it easier to pick it up. I'd recommend looking up Nebula Photos on YouTube for a crash course on taking pictures of the night sky.
