“I need a small printer that can be transported to areas that may not have internet access. If I use a cable to connect, will this work out? Some of the description says it is not portable - why wouldn't it be if we use USB to connect?”

I don't use bluetooth or network connections unless I have to. My MG3620 is always connected through a USB cable and it works just great. There are printers that are truly portable, they are built that way and can take a lot of manhandling and abuse. This one isn't. You can transport from place to place, but I would definitely not just sling it around, be gentle with it, keep it as level as possible at all times and you should be fine. You don't want to bang the print heads around,
