Triggered by motion. Though you can connect and view the field of vision 24x7. I can record or take a snapshot and download to my phone. Unless you pay for the ring storage (cloud storage) you only have a few 15 seconds videos available to you, and they only stay in the que for a limited time.

My 1st month afte installation, I had to increase to unlimited data. I was probably going to do that anyway, this just prompted it quicker.
