“How do I connect a second monitor to the computer? I tried connecting it to the top HDMI output (look at picture) but that doesn’t seem to work. Is there a cable that I need to buy in order to connect the second monitor?”

No there are more hdmi connections on the graphics card they have little red dust caps put in them to protect them when not in use when there is an external graphics card the integrated graphics are disabled which disables the display output connections on the motherboard.
