• That is to cover their butt and to prevent a hazard. The plugs are not weather resistant, so they will not block out the elements. I have mine plugged in outside, granted they are inside of plastic housing but they've worked fine.

• Thank you for your question! We recommend indoor outlets so the cameras can't be easily disconnected. They are outdoor rated however.
