Hello Natureboy and thank you for reaching out to Defender with this great question! The maximum distance the monitor and the camera can be from one another is 450 feet. The optimum distance is 150 feet, clear line of sight. Yes, the system will work if the monitor and camera are in separate rooms. If you have any additional questions we will be glad to assist you.
