“I was disappointed to learn (after purchasing) that the only software must come from approved Microsoft apps from the play store. I have used Firefox and Apache Open office with my prior Dell Inspiron PC. I think I need to return this product.”

I thought the same thing. I left it in s mode for a few weeks and then turned s mode off. It still works great. S mode is really easy to turn off and then you can download what you want to download.
