- Answer If at all possible, Connect the receiver to a TV in the house before connecting outside. The setup can be performed using the front controls and the remote. Please contact customer service for assistance. 800-497-8921

QuestionI have 2 outdoor Denitive Technology Aw6500 speakers . They are 200W max . Receiver I’m using right now is 100W per channel .I feel like the receiver is not maximizing those speaker . Would this receiver work with my speakers ?

- Answer Hello and thank you for your question. The DT AW6500's are wonderful speakers. They are also fairly easy to drive with a sensitivity rating of 92db. The Denon AVR-S540BT will work the the AW6500 speakers.

QuestionUsing the setup menu, surround speakers are Large, distance 10 ft., receiver on multichannel, no sound on outdoor speakers which are connected to surround when playing CD. Solution?

- Answer Are you hearing sound out of the front speakers? If everything is connected properly, you should be hearing sound outside. At his point I would recommend calling customer service at 800-497-8921

QuestionMy CD player is connected to the Media Player inputs on my receiver. My outdoor speakers are connected to Surround inputs. No matter what Sound Mode I select, I get no sound on the outdor speakers. Why?

- Answer First, the Denon AVR-S540BT is not a Zone 2 receiver. In order to hear sound outside you will have to set the receiver to all channel/5 channel stereo. This will send stereo signals to the surround sound speakers. Be sure to go into the AVR settings and activate the surround sound speakers.

- Answer In this type of configuration, set the receiver to all channel or 5 channel stereo. Be sure to set the receiver to 2 channel stereo when not using the outdoor speakers.

QuestionIs it possible to watch tv while in Bluetooth mode if my set top box is connected into the set top box hdmi input of the receiver? I’d like to listen to music on my phone while watching tv, with the tv volume off. Thanks in advance.

- Answer You can use the AVR's Video Select feature to listen to one audio source and watch a separate HDMI based vide source. To do this, go to the audio source first. (AM/FM, USB, Bluetooth) Then, press the OPTION button on the remote, activate the feature and select the video source you want to use. (i.e. CBL/SAT)

QuestionAre the HDMI inputs on the front, or only the back? Is there at least one on the front? I'd like to regularly unplug/plug an HDMI device (Nintendo Switch), and rear access to machine will be difficult given how room is set up.

- Answer No, there is no HDMI interface on the front. The easy way to address that is to get an HDMI extension cable.

- Answer Yes, the AVR's USB port can read MP3, WAV, WMA, AAC and FLAC file formats.

QuestionHow come the setup test doesnt pickup my sub?

- Answer Please try a tap test using your finger to tap on the SW cable connector and see if there's a "thump" when you touch the connector. You can also test using the AVR's Levels option by accessing the menu and selecting Speakers - Manual Setup - Levels. If you hear signal out of the sub from the Levels test, then the SW pre-out is working.

QuestionI have Bose home theatre speakers model 100, Samsung sound bar hwe550 and subwoofer pswe550.... will this receiver work with this system? The speakers have speaker wires and the sound bar and subwoofer have wires as well. Thanks.

- Answer As long as the soundbar is passive, (uses speaker wire) then it can be connected to the AVR. The sub would connect to the AVR's Subwoofer Pre-out. (RCA cable)

QuestionHave a lot of music on laptop and want to play by loading songs on a thumbdrive - plug in to receiver using Remote Control to turn Receiver on and off and play songs from thumbdrive. Will it do it and how large (number of gigabytes) a thumbdrive?

- Answer You can use a FAT 16, 32 or NTFS formatted USB drive. The AVR supports wma, wav, mp3 and aac and flac file types. The AVR can read up to 99 folders, 16 folder directories and 999 files.

QuestionDoes this receiver allow you to select what speakers have sound coming out of them? If I have two speakers inside the house and two outside, can I choose to have them all on or select just the outside or just the inside speakers only emitting sound?

- Answer Given this model does not have a Zone 2, you can use the Front L/R channels and the Surround L/R channels for 4 speakers. When using Stereo mode, 2 speakers will output. With Multi Channel Stereo mode, all 4 speakers will output.

QuestionI’m not sure why Best Buy advertises this receiver as having Heos when it doesn’t. Apparently it’s compatible with Heos but that would require a separate Heos link unit correct?

- Answer That's correct. Actually, the S540BT does not support networking at all. The wireless chip's only function is for Bluetooth. The first HEOS based model we carry is the S650H. Any model with "H" at the end supports HEOS internally.

Questioni bought this last year took 3 hours by a tech to set up worked good but now we tried to get it going this year [in my work room ] cannot get any sound !! had the techy stop by and he cannot get any sound . I have it on stereo fm speakers all hooked up

- Answer Please make sure the FM antenna is connected properly or you will get no reception. Also, I would test with another source that's not reception based to see if the unit is outputting anything. You can also test the amp channels from the Levels menu by outputting test tones. If you hear the test tones, then the amp section is working.

- Answer You can use the optical inputs or digital coax input only for audio. However, to view the AVR's menu you will need an HDMI connection from the AVR to a TV.

- Answer There still might be some latency as the AVR still has to process the signal. If you're trying to match Bluetooth audio and video, you're better off putting the AVR in Direct mode to bypass the audio processing.

- Answer Yes it does. It can crack the windows, it's a very good woofer. My husband had to turn it down very nice bass.

QuestionI have Bluetooth hearing aids, Can I get sound on them while at the same time sound from my speakers so others can hear?

- Answer No, as there's no way to generate signal to the hearing aids without using the AVR's front panel headphone jack. This would disable the speakers when the jack is in use. I would recommend our S650H model instead as that model and up have a Bluetooth Transmit feature that should wirelessly output signal to your hearing aids while the speakers output at the same time.
