• Yes. Your phone gives you all your visuals and GPS tracking. It won't function without a phone with the dji app.

• Technically, no. Without a phone you will not have access to take photos, videos, or use any features other than flying the drone. Flying of the drone will be further limited as firmware updates will not occur. In short, if you want to buy one be sure you have a smart device.
