Dear customers, Thanks for your inquiry. Having an internet service on your mobile device is not necessary to fly your DJI Mini 2. However, the internet connection will be needed when in terms of updating your DJI Drone such as the DJI Fly application, DJI flight safe database, and downloading offline maps. Please try again later.You can fly without Cellular service/wifi, in fact many recommend placing your phone into airplane mode before flight, that it actually helps the communication between the controller & drone by reducing interference. I've never had an issue leaving my mobile data, wifi, & Bluetooth on & have flown out quite far in the wide open countryside without any issues. I can't answer the return portion of your question.
