You issue here is that your basic driver set that is park of the Win7 is missing few compatibility features. What you need to do is find the manufacturer drives for your OS and install them. You will see that everything will work then. Look on HP support site the available downloads for that particular HP keyboard.

Based on your description it seems the adapter is working correctly since the only issue is the volume control keys not functioning. I would guess that the driver installed for the keyboard doesn't contain instructions for those buttons functionality since those buttons aren't always included on a keyboard. A different driver may add the volume control functionality or there may not be able to get that function to work through an adapter.
