Hi there, this is Krystal with Dyson. Thank you for your interest in the Dyson Supersonic. The Dyson Supersonic along with all of our corded machines are designed for use in the country they are purchased in. The voltage in Japan is 100v while the voltage in the U.S is 110-120v. Therefore, this hair dryer will not operate in Japan. Our machines are not multi-voltage. Using a power converter can also damage them. Best Wishes, Krystal Dyson Customer Support
