12-15 mins with the power head on it, 16 mins I think without. If you use turbo mode, which is a great thing, it goes to like 5 minutes. So, turbo is a luxury to be used sparingly. 

There is a newer version, called the V8, and those have the longer battery life. They are of course, alot more expensive.

I have not actually timed it but I can finish my floors upstairs and downstairs and have not had to charge it. I also have one of the first versions and it is by far the best one yet!!

Hi Sol, This is Carissa with Dyson. Our Dyson V6 Animal is not as new as the V8 Absolute. Dyson V6 features two modes of suction. A Max mode as well or a powerful suction mode. All of our cordless units do come switched on to Max mode out of the box. The V6 should run between 18-20 minutes in regular mode and 6 minutes in max mode. Additionally, our V8 Absolute features a similar Max mode. Our V8 Absolute will run up to 40 minutes in regular mode and 7 minutes in Max mode.

Happily I have never drained the battery. I have vacuumed 5 rooms and stairs at the same time.
