Hello Vernie, this is Kelly with Dyson. Thank you for your interest in the Dyson V7 Motorhead cordless vacuum. You have a few options in charging your Dyson cordless. You can store it on the dock, always connected to the charger. Your unit will stop charging, once the battery has received a full charge. You can wait until the battery dies to re-dock the unit, or you don't even have to use the dock if you opt not too, and you may just plug the charger directly in to the machine. We do recommend, however, waiting an hour or so, after using your vacuum, before placing it back on to charge. This will allow your machine time to cool down which can also help to prolong your battery life. Best wishes, Kelly Dyson Customer Support
