Yes, absolutely. There are a few different controller setups, including a “two button” mode, which is very basic (just pass and shoot if I recall correctly). Additionally, there is a variety of difficulties to set it to in order to make it easy to pick up. Playing on the lowest difficulty with two-button controls should definitely do it for a kid of his age.
