I have a WF-4730 and always get a message when the cartridge needs to be changed. Mine does not say 'error', but says 'low toner'. It will usually continue printing until the ink is just about used up. Then it will stop and no longer print. I only need to change the cartridge that the printer shows is low on ink. This is the reason I like the Epson WF.....you only change individual cartridges that are out of ink.
