Even when you are printing black text only, a small amount of color ink is used to keep the print head charged, preventing air bubbles from entering. Air bubbles can damage the print head. Q: QuestionWhat is the average number of pages per color. I see 300 color/350 black for standard but do not see the same information for high yield. Will other ink cartridges work in this printer?

• A:Answer Hi Sue, the ISO page yield for the T822XL cartridge is 1,100 pages in black or color. Epson printers that use a cartridge ink system are designed to use only genuine Epson-brand ink cartridges. Q: QuestionInitial Cartridges for the Epson WF-3820 printer--do you get an "error" message when the cartridges need to be changed ? Are all 4 cartridges changed at that time and replaced with the standard cartridges?

• A:Answer I have a WF-4730 and always get a message when the cartridge needs to be changed. Mine does not say 'error', but says 'low toner'. It will usually continue printing until the ink is just about used up. Then it will stop and no longer print. I only need to change the cartridge that the printer shows is low on ink. This is the reason I like the Epson WF.....you only change individual cartridges that are out of ink.

Q: QuestionWill the ink/cartridge/print-head go bad if I do not print for a long time? I only print about 5 pages per month. Sometimes none for couple of months. So if I buy a 822XL cartridge how long will it go before going bad?

• A:Answer I have bought these cartridges for over 6 years. Some months I, too, only print a few pages. I have never had the ink go bad. However, if I only print a few pages a month, I have occasionally noticed irregular printing on the page. When that happens, I simply have the printer run an ink head cleaning. Once, I had to do that two times in a row. The printer then prints clearly and the ink is just fine.
