“Does the Epson WorkForce WF-4820 printer need or use ink from the color cartridges when printing only B&W text? I've read some complaints from users (don't remember if they were Epson users) saying the printer used color even for b&w prints.”

Hi SteveH. Yes, Epson printers, including the WorkForce Pro WF-4820, contain a permanent print head that needs to be charged with all colors to work. Even when you are printing black text only, a small amount of color ink is used to keep the print head charged, preventing air bubbles from entering. Air bubbles can damage the print head. Check in your settings under your printer to see if possibly you can change it to black only when needed. This probably would be a very good question for the geek team.
