This projector can play movies and has good color, bright image and a speaker. However, the image format is 4:3 rather than 16:9 so you will lose image size when displaying a 16:9 formatted movie. I can not speak as to the sound quality as I would not use the internal speaker. You are better off using audio directly from the dvd/blue-ray player or an av receiver / sound bar.
