• No, you do not need to download the app to make the detector work. In fact, the X70 is only compatible with EscortLive if you purchase the optional EscortLive power cord, so out of the box the X70 cannot connect to your phone to make use of the app.

• works out of the box. The cloud service does require the app, but its an add on service with a monthly charge. It is not required for the detector to work. Note a different cable may be needed to use the cloud service.

• No the detector works right out of the box. Do recommend registering it right away with the Escort website to get email updates about firmware updates.
