- Answer No, you do not need to download the app to make the detector work. In fact, the X70 is only compatible with EscortLive if you purchase the optional EscortLive power cord, so out of the box the X70 cannot connect to your phone to make use of the app.

- Answer Yes, it does detect it. Be aware that laser is very directional, and if it detects laser the cop does likely have your speed.

QuestionWhere can I update?Just bought the Escort X70 and noticed that it (as does it's Passport cousin) has a USB A/MiniB port in the side for software/firmware updates. How can I check to see if any updates are available? There is nothing on this unit on the Escort Radar website. Thanks in advance for any answers.

- Answer Go to the escort radar detector website, at the bottom of the page click on register product, when complete the will send you an email to update it if there are updates available.
