Yes. I work In a hospital setting and tried it with a Cain to see. It just wasn't as accurate but still was really close.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I also have a short stride. I have set mine to watch the counter as I walk to check the accuracy. It has always been spot on. I don't see how using a cane would cause any problems since it goes by muscle movement. If you are going to wear it on your dominate arm you will have to go on the web site to change the settings for that and adjust the sensitivity. It is set to default to the non-dominate arm to read movement. Hope this helps and you have fun walking.
