Hello, Jjdancer50! To switch fan speeds, press the fan speed button until you reach the desired speed. To turn the appliance on using the remote, simply press the power button on the remote next to the mode button. Please use your remote that said Fan to change your setting. Please use your remote that said I it next to the word Mode on remote your instructions book you can see it on page 5

Switching from lo cool to med cool is done by changing the fan speed. Power on or off from the remote is the upper left button on the remote.
