Make sure that the rear portion of your unit is lower than the front portion by at least one inch to allow for proper drainage. Hope this will help.

The appearance of mold or mildew odor in your window air conditioner usually means you may have a problem somewhere, either in the unit itself, or the house. Mold appears as a result of a damp environment, so any place that’s subjected to excessive moisture is at risk. Air conditioners remove moisture from the air. The water collects in the base of the unit. Under normal conditions this water will be evaporated out of the unit. However, it is possible for some water to sit stagnant in the base of the air conditioner for extended periods of time. There is no easy way to prevent this problem. The problem will be reduced if you carefully clean the base of the inside of the air conditioner at least once a year. That will keep any dirt, lint or dust from absorbing the water and allowing mold and mildew to grow. You are able to try the following steps below to remove the mold/mildew: Combine 1/2 cup white vinegar with two cups hot water in a large bowl or spray bottle. Spray, or apply the mixture with a sponge, onto the vents and anywhere else you can see mold and mildew. Scrub the affected areas thoroughly with an old toothbrush or scrub brush, and then rinse clean with warm water.
