I don't know the actual decibel level, but it's fairly quiet, and soothing to sleep to. You can run it only in the daytime, but the space will be very humid for a while even after you turn it on the next day. Kind of damp feeling... I leave mine on.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I leave mine running all day and it is automatically shuts off when the tank is full. It is no louder than a window air conditioner. I don't see why it would harm the overall efficiency unless your moisture problem is exceeding the usage of the unit.

Running the dehumidifier during the daytime will not harm the efficiency of the appliance.
