While the device does not come preloaded with mapping of South America, this mapping is available as an optional accessory, which can be located with part number 010-11752-00. Mapping such as this which does not come preloaded on a device cannot be updated; a new version must be purchased to obtain updated content. Updates to the preloaded mapping on a device are released several times per year, and are free of charge on an "LM" device (lifetime maps). While it is not necessary for the operation of the device, up-to-date mapping is always helpful in ensuring the best navigation experience. -MH
