If you don't wish to pair this device with anything, you will not be able to see the time of day, but you will be able to track steps.

That is exactly why I bought the vivofit3. I can connect to an app, but I don’t bother. I can tell the time accurately and I walk more. Good ‘nuf. I would suggest buying extra bands, though. I have found that my band has stretched over the few months since I bought it and the locking mechanism has started to break. Other than that, I love it.
