    1yr Batt, use it swim/shower, small but easy 2read

    Theres a lot to like about the Vivofit 3, mostly the fact that I can shower, swim, and wear this all day and night without recharging! The screen is small but very sharp and clear, and it's big enough to read at any arms length. Seriously, if you have any concerns about legibility, the numbers are bigger than the ones on the keyboard i'm using right now. if you can read keyboard numbers, then you can easily read these numbers. If you press the button, there's a light that reminds me of my old casio watch. lights up easy to read, at night, but outside it's perfectly fine. Having used this for about 2 weeks, I love the little fireworks animation and the calendar animation for days I've gotten consecutively. Its a small thing but it keeps me motivated to keep it up. The alarm is kind of quiet but it's not any quieter than my old casio digital watch. Syncing is mostly OK, I've tried it a bunch of different ways and i think i've found what works best usally. I open up the app, press the button until the screen shows the sync symbol, and put my phone right next to the vivo. it usually takes a minute or so. It's not always connected because it think that's how it can keep the battery for a year. At first I thought it wasn't recording any activities because for the longest time it always showed nothing in the activities window. But i discovered a couple things. If you start the stopwatch by holding the button down, and letting go when it says START, then it starts a timer. Then I go for a run and when I'm done, I hold it down to STOP it. After I sync, then I get a "1" in the activities and it shows what I did. It DOES NOT do this if you just go for a run without starting the timer. The other thing I found is that when you're in the app, you can find a timeline of your day. Usually it's a squiggly line of movement, but if you go for a run without using the timer, there's an icon that shows I was running. If you hit it, it shows your time, it's call MOVE IQ. It does this for Elliptical, Walking and Running, but I haven't gotten it to work with biking or swimming yet. I think it's because I'm not doing it long enough. I looked back through the last few days and I can exactly tell when I was walking my dog cause there's a walking symbol at 6:30 or so each night. AWESOME! The app is pretty good if you can spend some time figuring things out. I think its like anything else, you have to try it a few times to get used to it. For example, it took me the longest time to figure out how i could change the watch faces. There's so many settings, but I finally figured it out. You also have to back out of the settings all the way and THEN sync. If you just sync it won't change anything. After I realized that, then I experimented with all the different watch faces and settled on the analog watch face. It fits really nicely and I've gotten a bunch of compliments about it from people at church and work. I also LOVE the split screen watch, and might go back to that when I get tired of this one. As far as the band its pretty big on me, but i think they're trying to make it work for a lot of people so whether your big or small it should fit. If you're really thin, I think amazon sells some other bands. I want to get the camo band but there's some others I think. The little circular clasp is easy to turn to lock. I forgot to lock it a couple times and it almost fell off, but if I lock it, it's not going anywhere. The band itself is nice and smooth, really soft. A couple of wierd things for me is that I do get something like 50 or so steps at night. What's up with that? Maybe it's because my arm was moving? Also, I think it doesn't track steps when I'm pushing a shopping cart or something like that. My friend told me to strap it on my belt. I'll do that next time.

    Cool features don't work but battery lasts forever

    Having bought into the fitness tracker movement early on I've owned most of the major ones as they tend not to last more than a year - some far less. Three things really irritate me about trackers - battery life, sync issues and having to start & stop activity recording. I'm minorly dismayed by the aesthetics of some of them. So having a Vivosmart with a failing display (& yes, it was about a year old) I started looking for its replacement. My must have requirements are simple - waterproof and a battery that lasts at least a full week. Waterproof lets me put it on and leave it on. If I'm not wearing it, it's not tracking. If I take it off to shower or swim or sit in the sauna or....pretty soon it is likely I'll lose it. I travel a lot and don't want to be hauling custom chargers with me because I'll a) lose them and b) when charging they're not tracking. I'm home weekends so a week charge capacity is okay. I looked at Fitbits again, did not look seriously at Jawbones (2 UPs showed me that they are simply too fragile for long term use even if they are the best looking ones in the market). Also checked out Microsoft and a host of other newer to the market offerings. It was easy to weed the candidates down because there simply aren't many that will last more than a week between charging and are waterproof. The Vivofit wins on the battery life count (1 yr plus) and is waterproof. It also wasn't as bulky as the latest Fitbits and it offers cool Activity IQ technology to figure out what activity I'm engaged in and automatically log it correctly. It also is supposed to offer 3 different syncing frequencies with my phone so I can manage my phone's battery burn. The truth? It's waterproof and the battery has lasted for a few months already. Everything else it claims to do it doesn't. The automatic detection of activities has a fair number of caveats and simply doesn't work. Syncing does not work on any schedule. Manual syncing does not work (with a Google Nexus 6 phone). It will only sync if I delete it from the Connect app and re-add it. Not surprisingly I only do that once a month or so. Were I to buy another I wouldn't waste the money on the step up to the Vivofit 3 and instead see how the Vivofit 2 worked. The little screen on the 3 was a trade-off for the IQ technology but since that doesn't work I'd go with the flexibility of the larger screen on the 2. I would not recommend the 3 and won't be buying another when this one breaks (in about a year no doubt). I'll look at the 2 if it's still offered or I'll check out what else the market has.

    Nice battery life, ok tracker

    I had chosen the Vivofit 3 over the Fitbit because it was waterproof, had a great battery life, and had the ability to track different activities. I had mentioned these qualities to my husband and he came through and bought it for me for Mother's Day. Unfortunately, I only got 2 out of the 3 perks that really mattered to me. I love not having to worry about charging it, I like to put things on and forget them. I also love that it's waterproof, I don't have to worry about taking it off for showers, doing dishes, etc.. but most importantly- SWIMMING! Swimming is my exercise of choice, so I was thrilled not only could I wear my tracker while swimming, but it would track the activity. Expectations have not been met in this area. It has never recognized my swimming activities. I wasn't expecting miracles, but would have at least liked that it recognized I was in fact swimming, it has not. Nothing more frustrating than "not meeting goal" after I've spent an hour in the pool and got zero credit for it) The app shows nothing under swimming. Additionally, the Garmin app doesn't even let you correct it. I thought maybe if I manually entered the activity I was doing, it would then be able to recognize it the next time. No such luck. Another odd quirk that I've found is that it doesn't automatically sync. I have it set to sync only "limited" (one or two times a day) to save battery life, but it doesn't even do that. I have to manually sync. A minor annoyance, but still something I was under the impression it would do on it's own. Overall, I like the tracker, but extremely disappointed in the "activity tracker." Really hoping a firmware upgrade will fix some of these issues. Good: Waterproof Battery Life Band actually fits! (I have a small wrist and usually run into issues with bands being too large) Bad Activity tracker doesn't track different activities. (I'm not a runner, so not sure how well it would track other activities, but as mentioned, it hasn't recognized swimming) It does track steps. Even if I wasn't a swimmer, I think the waterproof characteristic of this tracker is a key element. I couldn't imagine buying a tracker without it.

    Simple, but excellent, fitness activity tracker

    When I was looking for a replacement for my Fitbit tracker, I was actually skeptical of purchasing this product due to professional reviews saying that you are better off buying a Fitbit. Reasons for that is simply aesthetics, which I am not gonna lie the Fitbit is actually better looking. After all, the Garmin has an almost 80s retro look and feel to it. However, once you get past the uh, "80s look", and concentrate to its performance then it is actually well worth the money. This product has two big advantages over Fitbit in that it is waterproof and you can actually swim with it. Yes, that's right...all Fitbit except for one at the time of this writing are not waterproof. So yes, even though other professional reviews will give the edge to Fitbit in terms of "better functionality" , the Garmin Vivofit 3 actually does more since you can track your swimming workout, nor worry about sweat and/or rain damaging your tracker. The second advantage the Garmin Vivofit 3 has (even other Garmin trackers) is that it uses a battery which gives you a year long power supply. This in turn means you don't have to worry about charging it every night. The only cons that I could think of aside from the design is the wrist band. Instead of using a traditional wrist band, it has a rather "locking mechanism" which takes a bit getting used to it.

    I am happy with this garmin vivofit 3. I knew I wanted an activity tracker but was unsure which one. I looked at many different ones and read the pros and cons to each. After months of looking and debating, I decided on this one. I'm glad I did. I wasn't looking for one that I could get music on, or messages and such. I simply wanted one that would track my steps, let me set a goal, count my calories burned, and was comfortable to wear. I haven't worn a watch for years, so it took me about a week to get used to wearing something on my wrist again. I am happy that the vivofit 3 does not need to be charged. I have enough electronics that need to be charged. I didn't want to worry about another. It is waterproof, which is another great feature. I wear it while I wash dishes and take a shower. I only took it off when I went swimming. I didn't want to chance it. Some might feel that the fact this doesn't monitor the heart rate as a con but I see it as a pro. All the ones that track the heart rate have a bump on the underside. Granted I haven't worn one like that before, I just felt that would make it more uncomfortable for me. I guess it's more of a preference. I have bought some extra bands on Amazon as Best Buy didn't have any. They are not Garmin brand but work great. I am very happy with my purchase and highly recommend this vivofit 3.

    Great basic tracker, plus waterproof

    My wife needed a new tracker, so we looked into a wide variety from $50 - $200 that would meet her needs. 1) Needed to fit her well with a small wrist; 2) Good Bluetooth interface to smartphone app for further analysis and tracking; 3) water resistance. She wanted a Fitbit, but could not find the mix of water resistance and small form factor. - Shame on you Fitbit!!!! However, this Garmin does the job. Great price, too - thanks to Best Buy! One complaint is that it only came with a black band, and there were no additional bands in the store. Internet search took care of that, and she has a girly-colored band that is more stylish. Seems like the middle market of fitness trackers $100-$150, there is a big hole in function - you can have two but not more than two of the following: small to thin watch size, large display, heart rate, GPS, app integration, water resistant / water proof. I have a Pebble Steel that I love, but no one is making the function of that now dead product line. FITBIT - WAKE UP! quit making people buy easily damaged by water devices and add options like you just bought from Pebble. Otherwise, its off to Apple Watch or Samsung Gear Fit2.

    Switched from Fitbit Flex to Garmin Vivofit 3

    The Vivofit 3 is exactly what I was looking for in an activity tracker. I used the Fitbit Flex for over a year and finally gave up on it. I was tired of charging the battery at a minimum once a week. Eventually I went through three different charging cables as the tracker would not charge. The tracker eventually just died and no amount of troubleshooting or resetting would work. I was referred to the Vivofit 3 from a family member with the best value of all, no charging!!! I have now had the Vivofit 3 for over 3 months and it works like a champ. Took some getting adjusted to with a new and different app, but it syncs well and tracks the activity I was looking for. Highly recommend this for those just getting into tracking your activity.

    I had a Viofit for a couple years before recently upgrading to the Viofit 3. I prefer the Viofit 3 over the original Viofit. It's smaller, more modern, and quite easy and simple to use. The Viofit 3 works just a great as the original. I love that the battery lasts up to a year or more and can be replaced, rather than rechargeable. The water resistant feature is amazing. It's great to not have to worry about removing the device every time you shower, wash dishes, or go swimming. The clasp is much better, and I haven't had a problem with it falling off like I did with the previous. The only problem I have with the Viofit 3 (and also the Viofit) is that if I'm carrying something in the hand I'm wearing it on, and therefore not swinging my arm, or pushing a shopping cart, the steps aren't counted. I can live with that. It is overall a great product, especially for the price!

    Better options out there

    I've had major issues getting my vivofit 3 to sync with my Samsung Note 4 (and I'm a high-tech user). On average, it takes 3 tries to get the phone to actually register that the sync function was engaged. At least 3 times, I've had to unpair and repair the vivofit to get it to finally sync. Turning bluetooth off & back on doesn't seem to make any difference. I've worn it swimming once, and it detected it as walking. Paddling a kayak is also walking. Jogging (granted I'm pretty slow) is also walking. Sitting on the couch knitting counted as being active - I got my goal chime last night while watching TV! I'm not a fan of the lock knob, though I guess it's better than having the thing fall off. It hits at just the wrong place on me, and digs into my wrist when I'm at the computer (which is most of the time). Not having to charge the device was a selling point, but it doesn't out-weigh the problems with actual usage. I'd much rather put my device on the charger while I shower and have one that actually syncs when I tell it to.

    Purchased this as replacement to a vivofit2 that did not survive being run over by my pickup. Looked at a replacement 2 but as this 3 was now available I checked it out as well. Very pleased with it except for a few minor things. Not a big fan of the band, have a small wrist and where the 2 size band option of the 2 was great, this single size isn't as useful to me. It's also very flexible and one side will come undone occasionally. My sleeping habits as a firefighter are sometimes very irregular and the automatic option doesn't keep up with it. The manual sleep option on the 2 was useful to have. The last negative is that the display is sometimes hard to see, unlike the 2 which is significantly larger. Aside from those few things I've been extremely pleased with this 3. As long as I don't drive over it, it should be an excellent tool as have all of the other Garmin devices I've owned over the years.

    Freezing trouble

    I thought the product was a good bang for the buck and seemed easy to use. I was surprised someone else's data was on it! I should have returned it but I didn't. Then it froze after a couple of days with an "About" icon and I couldn't find anything about this through Garmin. I emailed their customer service. I changed the battery which fixed it, for a couple days when it did it again. I searched all over online and found a forum dedicated to the vivofit freezing. All were told to return it to the store. So that's what I did. I returned it as defective. When I mentioned it had already been returned Best Buy said they will accept Garmin fitness trackers as a return, but not the other brands. I finally received a return email from Garmin telling me to return the device. Way ahead of you!

    I purchased this to replace another Garmin tracker that I lost. Compared to my previous tracker, I like the backlit display (which my previous tracker didn't have) but the numbers are smaller so I need to carry my reading glasses with me when I go on walks. This tracker also has a stopwatch function which I haven't taken the time to figure out...however I do have a knack for accidentally starting the stopwatch when I'm scrolling through the display. So far this tracker is nicely meeting my needs to track steps and to integrate with the My Fitness Pal app that I use to track food consumption.

    I was looking for a basic tracker that could be used for swimming as well as tracking steps and sleep patterns. The Vivofit fits the bill nicely. I am able to track steps and activities which is all I need. There are no call/text notifications, touch screen abilities or heart rate monitor. You will need one of the other Garmin products for that. The Vivofit syncs up with the Garmin Connect phone app through bluetooth which allows you to track history and edit your activities. I did notice the mileage tracker is not very accurate compared to my Epson GPS watch but that was not a major dealbreaker. I use my GPS watch for runs and use the Vivofit for all day step tracking. One of the biggest pluses is the battery. It is said to last a year so no need to plug in at night. Price was excellent at $69.

    Good upgrade from Vivofit 1

    I got this one to replace my Vivofit 1 which lost a lot of display cells all of a sudden. The screen is smaller but easier to read. Backlight is a huge plus. Setting up was tricky because the enclosed guide skips steps. I had to call the customer service. It syncs faster than Vivo1. The clasp is more secure than Vivo1 but the top tooth keeps coming off of the hole which is annoying. It didn't come with Ant USB adapter like Vivo1 which is bad. How would people connect it to their computers? It also doesn't come in an HR monitor bundle option. I haven't tried my HR monitor chest strap with it but was told it is compatible. So if you have a Garmin chest strap you can use it with this product. I'm cutting 1 star because of those drawbacks, the operation is 5 star.

    I wore several Jawbone Up3 trackers for years but it was poorly made and the company is no longer making them. I decided to go with the Vivofit 3 as the reviews showed 4 and 5 stars and I am not the least bit disappointed. The only time I questioned its accuracy as it counted some steps when I really wasn’t active.(washing my face or bathing) I read in the manual to place the tracker on my non dominant wrist and the problem has been corrected. I love the fact that this does not have to be charged and is made well unlike my other tracker. It syncs easily and I also like the move bar. It’s small and not a bulky tracker on your wrist. Overall, I have had it for about a month and would highly recommend this tracker

    Love these type of trackers to help motivate me to move more (when I look down and realize how low my numbers for the day are). This purchace was an upgrade when my vivofit 2 died. Unfortunately I would rate it a step below my vivofit 2. I tend to do a lot of crocheting and this one will pick up crocheting movements as steps where the vivofit 2 did not. Otherwise it is just as good as my old one, I just have trouble remembering to actually put it on when I'm not crocheting. I would much rather have something I can pretty much put on and forget it like my 2 (but still get relatively accurate numbers rather than ones inflated by the thousands)

    The Vivofit 3 step counter seems to be accurate however the mileage tracker is not. I am still adjusting the custom step length to try to improve this. The sleep tracker seems to work fine. I am glad I switched from a Fitbit charge because the Fitbit battery was lasting 24 to 30 hours at best. I tried 4 Fitbit Charges within 15 months and each of them worked and held a charge initially but failed to hold a charge for more than 30 hours after 1 to 6 months. I love the fact that this tracker has a replaceable battery.

    No cloud sync- lost data

    This device worked fine for the first week. However the band kept falling off. There was never a problem syncing the data to the app for the first seven days until the app crashed. After signing in again the app had problems syncing up and finally connected but all the data for the week was gone. The app is very nice except it is not designed to sync to the cloud. That’s a deal killer for me. The folks at Garmin thought of almost everything except how to back up your data and recover it. Most good apps these days will let you back up to at least two or a variety of cloud services.

    A Nice "Step" Up from a Pedometer

    I have been using a pedometer to track my steps for over 10 years and decided it was time to upgrade to a fitness tracker. So far, I'm happy with the change to this one. Pros: *Cost was less than $100 *Wristwatch form factor makes it easier to check on my progress for the day *It does not need to be charged every few days *Allows for the band to be switched out Cons: *It requires setting up and syncing to a Garmin Connect online account and is pretty useless unless you do *The battery will need to be replaced sometime within the next year (though, I'm used to that...)

    Not worth the money

    Granted that I've had this product since day one when it came out. Which has only been 4 days. Best Buy could have done a better job in educating their Associates on new products coming out. Especially on Fitness bands like these. This band is the same as previous Vivofit nothing grand about it. Syncing takes forever, not to mention that Bluetooth took a long time recognizing this product. The Band on this tracker feels very cheap unlike the previous of garmin products. Save yourself the money and buy a different product. The price is not justifiable. If you wear glasses pass on this band. It can be very hard to read the numbers.
